RANDOM THOUGHTS FROM AN ENDORPHIN SOAKED MIND. MARCH...MADNESS?
As I was leaving the grocery store I saw a runner weaving and dodging through a maze of freshly melted puddles of snow, he had a huge smile painted across his face like he knew some secret nobody else was aware of. Did he know this streak of arid like 40 degree temps is only going to last 2 days before we plunge back below the freezing mark for high temps?
Basketball junkis are getting their ultimate fix, there's talk of the Master's just around the corner, and thoroughbreds are dreaming of the Derby. Yes, we're right in the thick of March Madness, and the hint of a spring out there somewhere, is enough to put a silly grinn on a ones face.
I once had someone tell me "Why woud someone want to run? They always look like they are in pain." I think runing has evolved. The lonliness of the long distance runner is a thing of the past. More often I see groups of people running together, giggling and laughing. throughly enjoying each others company. You will still see the grimass of pain when a runner is digging down deep, fighting through temporary pain to acheive the ultimate satisfaction of PR'ing a race.
A long time friend of mine, Diane, is known as the "Smilie Lady". You've probably seen her car at a race. It's the one covered in smilies with stuffed smilie figures in every nook and cranny. Adorning the bumber is a sticker: "A smile is contagious. Let's start an epidemic."
