If you've ever wondered what it's like to run in a snow globe, the RTC Spring Classic 5K and 15K races on April 27, 2019 were the place to be. The 33 runners enjoyed a magical trek with large, fluffy snowflakes gently falling on their heads and shoulders (and not so gently into their eyes when running into the wind!) as they made their way along the Rochester bike paths.
The just above freezing temperatures and snowfall were quite the contrast to the previous weekend's sunny skies and 80 degree temps. The typical out-and-back route to Mayowood along the Zumbro River was rerouted to an out-and-back route towards Pinewood School to avoid pending construction.
The 5K runners were led by Brad Wobig finishing in 22:03 followed by Travis Natrop (22:24) and Mason Jasper (26:59). Brooke Jasper was the first woman across the line in 30:52 with Benita Jasper finishing 2nd (39:19) and Rachel Midtovne (48:29) rounding out the top three women.
The 15K runners enthusiastically seized the longer opportunity to enjoy the picturesque snowfall (hopefully the last of the season!). Zach Fogarty was the first runner across the finish line in a damp 56:09. Time Degrado followed in 2nd with a 58:38 and Dale Pfrimmer was third overall in 1:04:42.
Anna Sanchez broke the finish tape as the first woman in 1:14:12. The next two women were Deb Thomford (1:17:50) and Ann Noser (1:23:31).
The experienced runners were out in force today with 40% of the finishers in the 60 and over age group. They are truly an insipiration to all of us in their embrace of a never-ending active lifestyle.
