Lightning and downpouring rain greeted trail runners as they arrived at Essex Park on Saturday morning, October 21 for the Tour de Essex trail run. The rain ended a few minutes before the race start providing runners with an enjoyable run under cloudy skies and 58 degree temps. The course, soft and slippery in spots due to the rain, covered 7.45 K of the Essex Park trail system.
The top three runners all finished under a 7 minutes per mile pace on the challenging hills at Essex Park. Joey Keillor was the first across the line at 6:11 per mile with Danny Whipple finishing second in 6:17/mile and Ali Khalili rounding out the top three in 6:42/mile.
Jennifer Clark, finishing fifth overall, led the women across the line in a 7:36/mile pace followed by Kris Stevens in 9:36/mile and Lana Lappi in 11:03/mile.
