Jesse Nelson won the 26th edition of the Mayo Open cross country race on September 15th, over 1 minute ahead of Braden Richardson (17:21 to 18:24). This was his second victory in the last 8 years, having also finished 2nd 3 times and 3rd twice. The temperature was in the 50s, along with sunshine and a light wind, making conditions ideal for the runners, who ranged in age from 10 to 73. Jim Hannon finished 4th overall and was first master's in 18:45. He won the first race held in 1985.
Mary Chestolowski was the 1st woman in 20:07, as well as first woman master, followed by Kirsten Pethan in 21:13. The 70 participants (including 2 walkers and 2 without numbers) resulted in the 3rd highest total, all enjoying a new course that, though challenging, was favorably rated by the athletes.
