Scheels Healthy Human Race - Saturday, August 22nd , 7 AM, Soldiers Field - 36th Annual
The Scheels Healthy Human Race running and walking events will be held on Saturday, August 22nd at 7 AM at Soldier's Field. There is an event for everyone from walkers to serious runners and include a 5K (3.1 miles), half marathon relay, and half marathon (13.1 miles). The Road Runners Club of America (RRCA) has designated the Healthy Human Race half marathon as the STATE championship. All events will start and finish at Soldiers Field.
The half marathon will run on the bike paths around Soldiers Field and mostly SE Rochester. The course will be monitored and remain open for 4 hours permitting walkers to enjoy the event as well as runners. Additionally there will be a half marathon relay where each participant runs/walks about 6.55 miles each before handing off their timing chip to their partner on 20th St SE.
The 5K (3.1 miles) will start at 7:10 AM with the course primarily around Soldiers Field. This is a great event for younger runners, those who are new to running, and all walkers. Many families sign up with their children and grandparents.
Every entrant will receive a Healthy Human Race technical t-shirt and all finishers of all events receive a custom HHR medal. Post-race refreshments will be available and awards will be presented at the conclusion of each event.
There is also the Rochester Track Club Charity Challenge where entrants cast a vote for their favorite charity. Last year the Gift of L:ife, NAMI, and the Ronald McDonald House were each the recipients of a $500 donation on behalf of the Healthy Human Race participants.
The race enters its 36th year and is sponsored by Scheels and the Rochester Track Club with race management assistance from Final Stretch, Inc.
