All Comers Track Meet Brings In Generations of Runners
ABC 6 News) - The Hal Martin All Comers Track Meet is entering its 45th year in Rochester, this year at Century High School. It's a summer event that has been bringing athletes of all ages to the track for generations.
Over 2,500 children and their families participate in the all comers track meet each year.
"Its a fun event," said Gwen Jacobson, meet coordinator. "Some people treat it more competitively than others, but the whole goal is to have fun. Come out and enjoy learning how to run the track and have fun."
The meet brings in kids from the ages of two, up until ten years old. It has different running races, plus a long jump field event
"Seeing the kids running down the track, the families come early, they set up their picnic lunches on the in field, the parents running with," said Jacobson. "I love the two year olds, it's a joy to watch them run down the track."
Participation in this event has brought families in from generation to generation.
"I started bringing my daughters about 1985," said meet participant Todd Johnson.
"We always have enjoyed the competition for the kids, and they loved it," said Jeanette Reichle. "I think they started out when they were two, right? I think two."
It's fun, but it has benefits for the athletes who return each year and each generation.
"I just think it builds their self esteem," said Teresa Koslowsky. "I think any kind of event like this is good for children."
Johnson said, "it is a great feeling to be out here with the kids. It is just very enjoyable."
