Hanna Hughes, one of 15 players selected to the USA Women's Sled Hockey squad, will be guest speaker at the Rochester Track Club annual banquet Saturday, Jan. 26, at Willow Creek Golf Club.
Hughes was an avid soccer player at Lourdes High School when she was diagnosed with a type of bone cancer known as osteosarcoma. After several rounds of chemotherapy, her medical team decided the best option was to amputate her leg, hip and half her pelvis.
Now 23, Hughes spends her days working at Channel One Regional Food Bank in Rochester. Off the clock, she trains at Olmsted Medical Center, preparing her body for the next time she puts on the Team USA jersey.
A feature story on her life is available through the link below.
The annual banquet is also a time to honor the 2018 Runner of the Year, service award winners, race directors and Grand Prix winners. Several prizes, including race entries, are also given out at the banquet.
The social gathering begins at 6 p.m. at Willow Creek Golf Course, a new location from the past several years. Dinner begins at 6:30 p.m.
Cost is $20 per person and pre-registration is required. Register online through the link below.
